I finished this book in one day。 Not in a good way。 I come from a state where a HORRIFIC school shooting happened in the town right next to mine, killing 26。 I was in high school when it happened。 This book is an embarrassment and frankly? It’s insulting。 I didn’t even cry at the ending and I cry at everything。 There was no way for me to feel for these characters and the 1 star that I gave is honestly generous。It’s clear to me that the author wanted to drum up a dramatic plot line so that it wou I finished this book in one day。 Not in a good way。 I come from a state where a HORRIFIC school shooting happened in the town right next to mine, killing 26。 I was in high school when it happened。 This book is an embarrassment and frankly? Each character in this novel is as bland as a piece of wonder bread。 There was no distinguishing between characters despite the fact that with Sylvia some Spanish phrases would be thrown in there。 When I read Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult, I found some of the dialogue to be cheesy but god at least I felt something for the characters!!!The last point that I’ll make to avoid any spoilers is the fact that none of these high schoolers spoke like high schoolers。 The dialogue was so unrealistic that I probably rolled my eyes out of my head。 I feel like I’m one of the only people who didn’t faun over this book like it’s the holy grail。 Please do not waste your time。 。。。more

Not that great but still made me cry

I feel like there was too much going on yet at the same time very little? We got a perspective from multiple characters yet I think the story could of had so much more depth if we had the perspective that of the shooter。 I would have liked to of seen they’re pov and know what they’re thinking, etc。 Overall I had high standards for this book and it did not meet them。 However it is a very well written story, I just didn’t feel like it made the impact it should have。

Very fast and easy book but so hard to read。 There was moments I needed to take a break from all of the stuff that was going on this would be a 5 star for me but there was SO much stuff that they said in the book that didn't many sense。(Sorry if I spelt some stuff wrong I am dyslexic ) Very fast and easy book but so hard to read。 There was moments I needed to take a break from all of the stuff that was going on this would be a 5 star for me but there was SO much stuff that they said in the book that didn't many sense。(Sorry if I spelt some stuff wrong I am dyslexic ) 。。。more

please look through the tws for this book before reading it !!!anyway, i would give it a 2。5,, it was rational at times but unrealistic for the rest。 i just cant imagine people acting the way the characters did if ever they were in the same situation。 i also believe that there shdve been more depth to the character of tyler considering that he played such a huge role in the book。 the writing style was okay but once again, it needed more substance to it。 i liked how there was a timestamp tho, it please look through the tws for this book before reading it !!!anyway, i would give it a 2。5,, it was rational at times but unrealistic for the rest。 i just cant imagine people acting the way the characters did if ever they were in the same situation。 i also believe that there shdve been more depth to the character of tyler considering that he played such a huge role in the book。 the writing style was okay but once again, it needed more substance to it。 i liked how there was a timestamp tho, it rly showed how much cld happen in less than an hour。overall, it was a quick read and the story was enthralling (i mean the main theme of the book is a pretty serious topic so ig that's why it was so gripping)。 。。。more

IM SORRY!!! i feel so bad for the 3 star rating, but i’m just not a huge fan of the constant switching of povs。 the story was incredibly powerful especially because i’m a current high school student。

Michelle

too many povs to be rly care about any but overall alright

I actually loved this book, I was scrolling to see the other reviews and I saw a lot of negative ones。And while I understand the resentment behind the “making money off tragedy is gross” thing, it IS a fiction novel。 It’s made to make you feel something, good or bad, and a school shooting (which is also the premise to MANY things these days) works for making readers feel something。 This book was written to make you FEEL。 To make you sad or angry。I read this book in about 6 hours, it’s a page tur I actually loved this book, I was scrolling to see the other reviews and I saw a lot of negative ones。And while I understand the resentment behind the “making money off tragedy is gross” thing, it IS a fiction novel。 It’s made to make you feel something, good or bad, and a school shooting (which is also the premise to MANY things these days) works for making readers feel something。 This book was written to make you FEEL。 To make you sad or angry。I read this book in about 6 hours, it’s a page turner, the whole time you just want to know how it ends。 It’s intriguing and unexpected。 In my opinion, definitely worth the read。 。。。more

This book left me feeling broken。 It wasn't like I cried, I just kinda felt empty but lost for a minute。 I still really liked it and thought that it was really well written。 This book left me feeling broken。 It wasn't like I cried, I just kinda felt empty but lost for a minute。 I still really liked it and thought that it was really well written。 。。。more

Sensational, gratuitous, shallow, immature… I read it because my middle school students recommended it。 I wish they hadn’t read it。 It’s not a sensitive approach to a sensitive issue。 It’s an approach that likely only feeds their anxiety。 Honestly, though, it is written in a similar style and voice to how my middle schoolers write, so I can see why they’re drawn to it。

Addison Woods

ugh, heartbreaking but so beautifully written。 i can’t believe the story was only over about an hour but i felt like i knew each of the characters so well (really enjoyed the story from 4 different perspectives), and let’s just say there were tears

sabina

this book is very intense。 i get the idea of making 54 minutes into 282 pages but it dragged on a bit too long。 overall it was good, and i do recommend。

Reading the blurb, this book had caught my attention。 But the blurb was probably the most interesting part。 I finished it in two days and that's only cause I like to finish what I start。 I expected more 。。。 More I guess。 The characters were just blah。 I started to rush through it because the jumping from one character to the other was just not right。 And the ending 。。。 Just ending。 Nothing more Reading the blurb, this book had caught my attention。 But the blurb was probably the most interesting part。 I finished it in two days and that's only cause I like to finish what I start。 I expected more 。。。 More I guess。 The characters were just blah。 I started to rush through it because the jumping from one character to the other was just not right。 And the ending 。。。 Just ending。 Nothing more 。。。more

I’m all for YA novels teaching new perspectives and allowing us to learn from other experiences…this one just feels a little too harsh。 I hate that this is real。 I hate that kids have to think this could happen to them。 I don’t know that I’d tell students to read it。

Hannah

Amazing book, such a shocking ending。

Emma

This is my favorite book by far, I love it。 I recommend it so much!

Lily Kemble

it was okay。 the characters seemed unrealistic and it was hard to relate with them。 you could pretty much see where the book was going before you read it。

The book gets off to a slow start, mostly due to its preachiness, but then settles into a great read that is hard to put down。 The story is terrific, suspenseful, and keeps you wanting to know what's going to happen。 The only downside is content is often interrupted by the author's need to preach。 The book gets off to a slow start, mostly due to its preachiness, but then settles into a great read that is hard to put down。 The story is terrific, suspenseful, and keeps you wanting to know what's going to happen。 The only downside is content is often interrupted by the author's need to preach。 。。。more

This was the most heartbreakingly beautiful book I have ever read。 I pray this never happens to my school。 It really twisted my mind and made me think “why am I crying” when the villain met his end。 The mind is a weird place。 This book deserves all the hype

Jaz

I honestly enjoyed it。 Obviously some things were amplified to make it more intresting。 I would just say that this is not rlly a good book if u want an accurate retelling but is a good book for an inspired account of school shootings。 I enjoyed Nijkamp' s writing style and admire her ability to create tension。 :) I honestly enjoyed it。 Obviously some things were amplified to make it more intresting。 I would just say that this is not rlly a good book if u want an accurate retelling but is a good book for an inspired account of school shootings。 I enjoyed Nijkamp' s writing style and admire her ability to create tension。 :) 。。。more

When you read the synopsis of this book…you already know what’s going to happen。 At first, I thought it was going to be a back and forth situation from present to past。 But the result was even better。 It started with it being a normal day, I could hear my heart beating with every page…wondering when the shooter would strike。 For me at least, I didn’t expect some of the events that took place and it left me rattled。 This book is a very good short read! At first, I was a little confused, then with the flashbacks, I started to understand the “why” of everything, I know that was the point but it made it a bit difficult to read at first。I picked up the book two times, the first time I was only reading to finish it because I wasn’t really involved, but the second time I picked it up I wasn’t able to let it down not even to eat, and at the end, I couldn’t stop crying even after I finished it。

This book is about a school shooting in which many kids die, your favorite characters will die brace for impact。 Its a fast pace read because you cant help yourself, you wanna know how it ends
